On July 7th my son and I were flown to the ICU unit at the Seattle Children’s Hospital where we stayed for one full week. Type 1 diabetes was the shocking diagnosis we were given as to why my son was sick! My wife later arrived that night by car. This would lead to the biggest shift in the direction of our lives and ministry. Although we are treating DannyBoy for this condition, my wife Angie and I believe that he is healed completely by the power and blood of Jesus Christ!

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Earlier that day my wife Angie and I had a difficult discussion about the need for us to surrender to God‘s purpose for our lives. I was in the process of pursuing a career in the financial services industry, but this pursuit came to a hard stop when my son was hospitalized. I began to see that this career path would only detour me from God’s purpose for my life.

I find it interesting to see how God can take a tragic situation in our lives and use it to shift our direction in life. God really dealt with me heavily while my son was in that sick bed! I knew that God had called us to be pastors, but during this painful process, I have never seen it more clearly. This tragic event that satan meant for wrong, God used to wake us up. He showed us that our son’s purpose depends on Angie and I fulfilling ours.

As I sat in that hospital room feeling my sons pain, begging God to take it away from him and put it on me, for once in my relationship with Jesus I came to understand and experience the fullness of His love for me. I’m forever changed through this experience and have approached life with new meaning and perspective.

“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:18
