As I prepare for a sermon that I’ll be giving at a youth event, I find myself feeling stuck about the exact direction to take. I have an idea but lack the clarity around the topic and portion of Scripture I plan on using to preach from.
As I’m fumbling through the pages of the Bible I’m drawn to Luke 9:10-17, and how Jesus takes only five loaves and two fish, and multiplies them to feed five thousand.
“Then He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.” Luke 9:16
The thing I keep hearing in my heart from the Holy Spirit is; “Give Away What You’ve Been Given.” All God needs is what we have to give and He takes care of multiplying our gift.
The problem is that we get stuck feeling like we’re not enough because we don’t have enough to give, but in reality we were given everything we need for God to step in and bring multiplication to our gift.
Here’s the point… What we do have, we only have because it was given to us from God. We simply give it back to Him. Only then can He take the gift He once gave to us and multiply it.
“So they all ate and were filled, and 12 baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them.” Luke 9:17
What He gives you back in return is always more then what you started with. My encouragement for you today would be that you “Give Away What You’ve Been Given.”
