Finding Silence in a Busy World
Isn’t it hard to find quiet time these days? For a long time, it’s been tough. We live in a busy, noisy world with lots of things happening all the time. From cars and planes to phones and computers, our lives are full of distractions. But it’s important to take time to be alone with God.
Finding Silence in Jesus gives rest to your soul. Jesus often went to quiet places to pray, showing us how to do it. Mark 6:31 says, “Then Jesus said, ‘Let’s go off by ourselves to a quiet place and rest a while.’”
The Importance of Silence
If we don’t take time for quiet moments, we might lose our close connection with Jesus. This can make it easier for bad things to happen in our lives. In quiet times, we see our true selves and find rest and strength in Jesus.
Finding Silence in Jesus means turning off the noise to hear God’s voice. We can do this by reading the Bible, fasting, praying, or just getting away from distractions. After His baptism, Jesus spent 40 days in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-2).
Practical Steps to Finding Silence
- Daily Devotion: Spend 10-15 minutes a day with God—no music, no distractions, just you, your Bible, and Jesus.
- Reading the Bible: Read the Bible itself. Devotionals are good, but hearing directly from God’s Word is special.
- Prayer and Fasting: Like Jesus, take time to pray and fast, finding strength and guidance from God.
Embracing Silence Despite Busyness
The world tells us to do more, get more, sleep less, and go faster, which leads to noise and stress. But Finding Silence in Jesus is important for our well-being. In quiet moments, we get ready for the work God has for us.
Reflecting on Our Spiritual Condition
Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “We are so afraid of silence that we chase ourselves from one event to the next in order not to have to spend a moment alone with ourselves.” When we listen to the Holy Spirit, we see our true spiritual selves. But remember, Jesus died on the cross so we could know Him.
Final Thoughts and Prayer
Has the busyness and noise of life made you feel far from Jesus? It’s time to find rest in Him. My prayer is that we all leave today, ready to take time away from the noise to hear the Holy Spirit.
Let’s not let sin and distractions keep us from Jesus. Finding Silence in Jesus is rest for your soul.
