Are you feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just plain exhausted? Do you know that you can find true rest and peace in God, no matter what you’re facing? In this blog post, we’ll check out some practical steps to experiencing the deep, rejuvenating rest that only God can provide.

In our fast-paced world, finding rest can seem impossible. Yet, the Bible promises us that we can find true rest in God. Understanding how to tap into this divine rest is crucial for our spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being. Here are some simple yet practical ways that you can find rest in God and rejuvenate your soul.

1. Trust in God’s Promises

Understanding and trusting in God’s promises is the foundation for finding rest. The Bible is full of examples of God’s faithfulness and care for our physical and spiritual well-being! God wants to give us rest!

Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV) says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” It’s our responsibility to bring our burdens and stresses to Jesus! He says, “Take my yoke.” Jesus wants to help us through life. We need to stay joined to Him; we need to stay connected to Him.

2. Practice Daily Prayer and Meditation on God’s Word

Daily prayer and meditation on God’s Word are crucial for the Christian. It’s the way we center our mind and spirit. It helps bring a sense of peace and rest that our soul desires and needs.

Psalm 62:1-2 (NIV) says, “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Take time during your day to talk to God like a friend. He wants to know that we need Him to be our rock and foundation in times of busyness! Take time every day to meditate on His Word. This will truly be your source of strength so that spiritually, you will not be shaken!

3. Sabbath Rest

God gave us the formula for recharging our spiritual and physical batteries. It’s so important to God that He made it one of the Ten Commandments. It’s a time to step back from our daily grind and focus on God.

Exodus 20:8-10 (NIV) says, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it, you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.” Trust me when I say that this one is hard for me! We live in a culture that seems to reward busyness. The world tells us to do more, get more, sleep less, and go faster, which leads to noise and stress. In reality, it only leads to more noise and stress in our lives!

4. Cast Your Anxieties on Him

Learning to cast your worries and anxieties on God is crucial for finding rest. God cares deeply about our worries and invites us to lay them at His feet!

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV) says, “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” So many people go through life trying to cope with their worries and anxieties. Although it’s not a promise that God will fix every worry we have, it is a promise that we don’t have to do this alone. God is trustworthy to help us with our worries in the best way possible.

5. Rest in God’s Presence

Spending time in God’s presence should be a deep desire for a follower of Jesus. It’s also a lifestyle and posture of daily worship, prayer, and quiet reflection. This sets a pace for our lives and reminds us to be still and know that God can calm our souls.

Psalm 46:10 (NIV) says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” To be still and rest in God’s presence is to have a calm assurance that we are safe in God’s care. It’s letting go of our need to be in the driver’s seat and taking a posture of trust in God by being still.

If you’re ready to experience true rest, start applying these biblical principles to your daily life. Trust in God’s promises, dedicate time for prayer and meditation, observe a Sabbath rest, cast your anxieties on Him, and spend time in His presence.
