Ephesians 3:20 “God is able to do much more than we ask or think through His power working in us.”

The waiting game

Playing the waiting game has never been fun.  I mean who wants to wait in a long line, or wait listening to hold music when calling the cable company?  Not me..  Well when it comes to our Spiritual lives waiting is necessary.  It seems to me like much of our Spiritual development involves waiting.  It’s easier to “jump the gun” and resolve issues on our own than it is to wait on God.  One thing we can be sure of is that God is never late.  And if He always comes through right on time, then why is it so hard for us to wait.

Living in the fast lane

Waiting simply goes against our selfish nature.  We want things our way and we want them now.  We live in a culture that supports a mind-set that says “Why Wait.”  Examples of that are things like fast food, fast internet, fast forward through commercials.  I think we both know that the list goes on.

A Frustrated Mind

This kind of mentality can get us into trouble in our Spiritual lives.  Getting ahead of God can be thought of like “opening a can of worms.”  Rather than waiting on God to open doors for us on His clock, we can kick doors down and make decisions based on our own judgment, only to later realize they were outside of Gods plan for our lives.  The result of our actions only leads to a frustrated mind.  Proverbs 3:5 says it this way “With all your heart you must trust the Lord and not your own judgment.”

Wait in Anticipation

One thing we should always remember is that God is always in control and He has the very best for us, even when we don’t see it or understand it.  Isaiah 55:8 says it so clearly, “The Lord says: My thoughts and my ways are not like yours.”

Putting it in God’s hands is not easy for most of us.  Here is something I repeat often at times I am unsure of what God is doing, “I have no other choice but to believe that God is at work”.  Keeping this in mind can be so empowering when battling the pain and frustrations of waiting.

Romans 8:28 “We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love Him and are chosen to be a part of His plan.”

My prayer is that in times of waiting we can recall and understand that God uses those seasons in our lives to grow our trust in Him.

    1. Thank you for the advise. I’m fairly new to all this and can use the help. I appreciate it!

  2. Waiting is hard. I first heard this song on the movie “Fireproof” and the lyrics are simple reminders on what to do while waiting. Romans 8:28 is encouraging. But again I say it’s so hard…especially when it seems to be ZERO prospects/possible provisions. ! 🙂 Happy New Years!

    1. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one that finds it hard to wait! It also builds my faith to know that God has a plan through it all. We just need to stay the course! Happy New Year!
