Staying positive in a negative world is easier said than done and may require great effort, but with God’s help and self-discipline anything is possible.
A Positive Mindset
From the news to everyday conversations with people it’s easy to see that we live in a world that will try to squeeze us into its negative mold. Having a positive mindset changes our perspective of life and can propel us toward opportunities all around us. To remain positive we must continually make the decision to resist negative thoughts that come to our mind. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold, but let God re-mold your minds from within…” (PHILLIPS) God gives us the power to choose to have a positive mindset. Here are a few tips that can help you be more positive.
- Choose To Think Positively
God gave us the freedom and power of choice. No matter what the situation may be, you always have a choice. You will face problems that seem to have no solution. Your circumstances at times may be outside of your control, but the choice is still yours. In the end choosing to think positively will make all the difference. Your mental attitude is everything. What you choose to think about will determine the atmosphere around you. Choose to think positively and you will see beauty all around you. Thinking negatively will drain the joy of life right out of you. Philippians 4:8 says, “Finally, my friends, keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.” (CEV)
- Practice Responding Positively
We may not have control over our circumstances, but we can control the way we respond to them. When we respond negatively toward a situation, rather than finding a solution, we only make things worst. Your first reaction may be to respond negatively, but in those times when you feel like you have no other response to the situation, tap into the mental power offered to you through Jesus to overcome any negative situation. Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do everything through Christ who strengthens me.” (GW)
- Have Positive Expectations (Faith)
“If you don’t expect anything good to happen, then you won’t be disappointed when it doesn’t.” —Joyce Meyer.
It takes much effort to look past tough times and see a positive outcome. Positive results come to those who raise their level of expectancy. If you start anticipating a great outcome, then that’s what you will get. This works like a magnet drawing the best to you. Matthew 8:13 says, “…What you believed will be done for you…” (GW)
My prayer is that we can strive to change the way we think and respond to life’s challenges more positively. Let’s start expecting God to do great things in our lives.
